I can’t even begin to list all of the excitement from this summer for fear of leaving something or someone out— but I can say while there are still a few days left, I’m so thankful for the (Spring and) Summer of 2017. Pinch me– it still feels like I’m dreaming.
This has been the best summer of my life and while each event was as memorable from beginning to the start of fall, the food was a very close second to every single memory made from this summer. We started the season with ribs (in New Orleans) and that’s exactly where we’re going to be finishing up as Labor Day is approaching. Use this day wisely—but be sure to get some ribs. I’m always going to advocate for them. Always.
Nothing beats good company, good food, and good drinks. It didn’t matter if I cooked the food, had it made, delivered, ordered, or if someone purchased it for me; each meal was prepared and given with a purpose and love in mind.
I crafted new recipes, tried new foods, discovered a love for new ingredients, pinched from my friends’ plates, started a new fresh food and ingredient series— Keep it Fresh, and perfected some of what I already love. In so many ways, that’s life, right? A collection of memories and special ingredients that give way to the perfect dream. Regardless of your kitchen expertise, my hope is that you’ll see that with each rising sun each ingredient serves a purpose and will give way to the best meal you could ever imagine (and a lot of times it’s better than what you originally had in mind).
Happily, summer isn’t over and I can’t wait to see what else this season has to give this Leo.
Festivals, music, traveling – whatever your plans- reach back and help someone else as there are so many opportunities to give of your time and talents. There’s so much more in store and I can’t wait to announce what I’ve been working on but until then… safe travels and Bon Appétit!
